  • Great coffee shop / restaurant with a huge choice of food and great coffee. Highly recommended. Funky hippie interior decor with lots of interesting pictures and cozy seating areas. Also seating is available outside to the left, watch out for the seagulls which will steal your food.

  • We love the Wholemeal! Can’t go to Tākaka without stopping in for some Kai. I had the Turkish eggs and they were so fresh and delicious. Kids area is a dream set up for our wee sprog and the tunes were a vibe as per usual!

  • We absolutely loved everything about our visit – the food, the atmosphere, and the entire experience were exceptional. We had breakfast, and both my son and husband were incredibly impressed with the outstanding service. Highly recommend this place!

  • Delicious sandwich and food yet $18 for a bowl of soup seems a little steep. Sausage roll was spot on.

  • What's not to like about Wholemeal? An old picture theatre reinvented, full of colour & cheer, bringing the community together. Food is old-fashioned good with generous serves & delicious sweets. Coffee was also nice & loved the decor, pictures & paraphernalia

  • I had my first vegan real fruit ice cream and it was incredible! I can just as they were shutting up shop and kindly waited to serve me. I had mango, passionfruit, raspberry and mint and it was amazing.

  • This place was recommended to us by some locals so we headed over there on a Friday for a late breakfast. I ordered the wholemeal mash with bacon and it was just OK. The poached eggs were overdone and it came with big half potato size chunks of fried potato And the entire meal was a bit dry and overcooked. Definitely not what I would think of as hash. But it was made with quality ingredients from what I could tell and the service was average but the atmosphere definitely is very cool and a nice place to enjoy a meal with friends. The prices are on the high side for the quality of the preparation but overall it was not a bad experience. I honestly don’t think I would go back there again if I was a local but maybe they were just exceptionally busy that day or maybe something else on the menu would have been better.
